FAQs

We have lots of information available throughout our website, but here are some areas we may not have covered!

  • No. All of our classes welcome complete beginners as well as children with some experience. We support every child at their own pace.

  • Yes. Many children join Theatre Foundations feeling nervous or lacking confidence and we are very experienced and able to make them feel at ease quickly. Our classes are supportive and nurturing, and children are never forced to perform alone.

  • We understand that children may occasionally miss a session. While missed classes cannot be refunded, children are always welcomed back and supported to settle in again.

  • Your child can attend a full class, join in as much as they feel comfortable, and see if Theatre Foundations is the right fit before you decide to sign up.

  • There are no extra charges for our performances which means costumes, lighting, sound, tickets, performance videos and dress rehearsal photos are all included.

Aside from the cost of the class, we ask that you wear the correct uniform -more details can be found on our uniform page.

  • To help children settle and stay focused, parents do not stay in the room during classes. We are always happy to answer questions before or after sessions.

  • Classes are grouped by age, and full details are available on each class page. If you’re unsure, you’re always welcome to get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.

  • Yes. Because Theatre Foundations is a musical theatre school, we are able to offer different levels of challenge within the same class, even when children are in the same age group.

Musical theatre naturally allows for flexibility. More experienced students may:

    • Put themselves forward when solos are offered out to the class.

    • Be challenged with more complex harmonies or performance material

    • Put in dance sections that stretch them technically or artistically

    • Encouraged to push themselves further out of their comfort zone with more complex characterisation when acting.

At the same time, less experienced students are fully supported and included, allowing everyone to work together while developing at their own level.

This means children with varying experience can thrive side by side, each being appropriately supported and challenged.

  • In our younger age groups, children are automatically invited to move up to the next class once they reach the appropriate age.

When students reach the Intermediates stage, progression into Advanced is approached a little differently. Rather than being based on age alone, students are invited to move into Advanced when they show they are ready for the next level of challenge.

Readiness for Advanced is not about talent or ability, but about:

    • Focus and engagement in class

    • Willingness to put effort into their work

    • Confidence working in a more mature, structured environment

    • Readiness to work on more complex storylines within musical theatre

Advanced remains a supportive and inclusive class, but it does have a more focused, professional-style approach. We want to ensure students move into this class at the right time so they can enjoy it, feel confident and get the most from the experience.

We always support students on their individual journey and are happy to discuss progression with parents if you have any questions.
