Beginners Class

Building Confidence, Skills and a Love for Performing

Beginners is our musical theatre class for children aged 8–11, designed for students who are ready to develop their skills in singing, dancing and acting while gaining confidence and independence in a supportive environment.

This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as children with some previous experience who would like to build strong foundations in musical theatre.

  • Each weekly class works on the three disciplines of musical theatre in a structured but enjoyable way.

    Children will:

    • Learn songs and develop them into staged musical theatre numbers

    • Work on basic choreography and movement for performance

    • Explore acting through script work, character and storytelling

    • Develop ensemble skills such as teamwork, focus and stage awareness

    Classes are energetic and engaging, while still maintaining clear structure and expectations.

    • Children aged 8–11

    • Those ready to develop and improve upon existing skills

    • Beginners with no previous experience

    • Children who enjoy performing or want to grow in confidence

    • Students who are ready to work with more structure and focus

    Many children move into this class after Foundations, while others join as their first experience of musical theatre.

  • Beginners students take part in our annual production, giving them the opportunity to perform on stage as part of a larger cast in a professionally supported show.

    As with all Theatre Foundations productions:

    • There are no additional charges for costumes, lighting or sound

    • Families are not charged for tickets

    • A video recording of the performance is included

    • Dress rehearsal photos are provided

    Performances are designed to be exciting, confidence-building and age-appropriate.

  • Beginners classes run on Monday after school at Ash Manor School, with two class times available:

    • 5-6pm

    • 6-7pm
